Inside the AISI: Jobs, Impact, and How to Apply (January)

Australia's newly announced AI Safety Institute is recruiting for its founding team—including senior leadership, research scientists, engineers, and policy specialists. Early hires will shape the institute's direction, culture, and impact for years to come.

If you're considering applying, this free 45-minute event will give you relevant context to help you decide whether to apply and practical guidance to help you put together a strong application.

Can't make this time? We're running a second session on Monday 22 December at 12pm AEDT, which may be more suitable if you're in US/Asia timezones. 

The event will cover:

• AISI context: how we got here and why this matters for AI safety in Australia and globally
• What the AISI will actually do: models from around the world and approaches Australia could take
• Types of roles and why you might want to apply, and
• Navigating APS recruitment: how Australian Public Service hiring works and how to tailor your application for government recruitment processes.

This event is especially valuable if you're coming from industry or have been working on AI safety overseas. The AISI needs people with hands-on experience evaluating frontier models and deep technical expertise. We want to make sure you have the information and resources you need to apply your talent in Australia.

Speaker

Greg Sadler brings 15+ years of Commonwealth public service experience, including senior national security roles and work at Emergency Management Australia, where he designed and facilitated exercises on catastrophic disasters, complex cascading scenarios, and space weather. As CEO of Good Ancestors, Greg has been advocating for an Australian AISI since 2023, provided oral evidence to the Commonwealth Senate Inquiry on Adopting AI, regularly briefs parliamentarians and senior public servants, and has collaborated with the UK AI Safety Institute on technical capability evaluations. He has established relationships across Defence, Home Affairs, PM&C, and other agencies.
