Party Notes: The Coalition promises to protect Australians from emerging risks, including AI misuse and cyber threats. The Coalition criticises the current Government for holding consultations and announcing advisory bodies rather than taking “the dynamic action that is required on such a critical issue”. However the Coalition says nothing specific about an AI Safety Institute.
Mandatory Guardrails
A dedicated AI Act with mandatory guardrails for high-risk AI systems will both protect Australians and create the certainty businesses need to innovate.

Party Notes: The Coalition promises to protect Australians from emerging risks by ensuring strong safeguards against AI misuse, including cyber threats. The Coalition is critical of the ALP for “failing to take decisive action or provide clarity and policy direction”. The Coalition does not explicitly say that it supports an Australian AI Act, and Coalition members of a Senate Committee Inquiry into AI said an AI Act should only be a “last resort” to “fill regulatory gaps”.
